prompt 5

Throughout all of out reading on writing and how to imporve your writing there were things that i have learned that seemed to be of great use and there were things that i have already known that was more like review. One good thing that I thought was valuable was the delievery of Williams. I have always went through school with teachers and professors telling me how to write and showing me the correct way to write but never knowing why and even sometimes how to go about doing so.

I learned about the right way to structure a sentence and why it is so important. I also learned where commasz should be placed and how people make the mistake of just placing them anywhere or in the wrong spots. Also Elegance was the topic for chapter 9. they discussed where to place prepositions and how to stregthen a sentence
Prompt 4

I have read several of my classmates blogs and Strunk & White and WIlliams and it seems to me that everyone had the same views towards both of the texts. One blog site I viewed was Roberts, and he stated a few things that i had previously said in my blog that i highly agreed with. he first states that "Williams takes the time to explain why certain steps should be taken and explains how they improve your writing. He gives solid examples to refer to if his points are unclear." This seems to be the point that everyone is making in their blogs and even though Williams seem to be more in depth and more clear most of my peers would choose Strunk & White over Williams. One thing that Robert also said that didn't cross my mind was that "Williams writing also comes off as less authoritative than Strunk and White's. You can read it with the understanding that you aren't the only one to make some of these writing mistakes and many times they are done by highly respected writers." These rules that both authors are giving seems to be mistakes that not only i make but others make as well and i shouldn't feel bad because they all are so common.

Another blog that i viewed was Kacey's she said "There are pros and cons for each approach. Williams is a great way to teach writing, and show how to become a better writer." This was a great point because Kacey showed that even though each book gave rules and guidelines to writing they had different purposes. i would aagree that anyone trying to teach writing would read Williams an get more valuable information before Strunk & White.
f
I have read both books, the one from Strunk & White and the one from Williams. I felt that they both were useful in the fact that they were able to offer ideas and rules to strengthen my writing. For some odd reason i enjoed Strunk and white more than Willams. I don't think it was because it was shorter in length but it was more like a manual. I think that if i was in the middle if writing a paper and need to refer to a certain rule i would fine Strunk and WHite more useful. It seems to me that is what is needed most for myself as well as other students.
Willliams approach was more direct in the sense that it not only gave rules and examples, but it also answered the how and the why to each rule. it gave you a better understanding on how to go about doing certain things.I think that this was a great approach and very helpful, but i dont think i would use it as much as i would use Strunk and WHite.
